diamonds and reports on what items celebrities adorned heavily populate the list. The top item, however, was a surprise. Here it is, vox populi, in descending order:
Gassman’s Insider View: Zale’s Goldberg Never Had a Chance - Ken Gassman’s fiery opinion piece on the dismissal of Zale’s CEO in January 2010 spread like wild fire. Goldberg was shot out of his CEO seat after a short term that hardly gave him a chance to create the turnaround the company so desperately needed. Ken’s recommendation for the next CEO, ‘get your pay upfront’, contributed to making it the most read article on IDEX Online in 2010.
Our report on Polar Ice entering receivership (Polar Ice Diamonds in Receivership, $41.6M in Debt Listed, November 14) was the second most read article, indicating that one of the most important issues is who you do business with. Fancy color diamonds were a hot item 2010, as were auctions, leading many to read Fancy Vivid Purple-Pink Sells for $1 Million (December 8). Another article on the topic was ‘Hong Kong is the Leading Jewelry Auction Center’, which described Hong Kong’s sizzling auction market.
Among reporters they are called fluff items, articles about what esoteric, odd or sexy stories that always capture attention, and we had four of them in the top 10: A Ring for the Rink, Damiani’s Diamond D’s: Victoria’s Secret $2 Million Bra, The Bride Wore Floral Earrings, Her Mother Pink Drops - The Clinton Affair and Oscar Night Diamonds Bigger and Brighter.
Finally, the sad and shocking story about the abduction of the family of an Indian diamantaire in Antwerp (March 7), proved that we know that at the end of the day, our families our more important to us than work or money.
