BHP Billiton Donates A$2 Million To Victorian Flood Relief
January 25, 11BHP Billiton CEO, Marius Kloppers said the company wanted to show its support for Victorians during this difficult time. Melbourne is the home of BHP Billiton’s global headquarters and has been home to the Company’s headquarters since it was formed in 1885. The Company also has significant oil and gas interests in Victoria.
“BHP Billiton recognizes the particular hardship caused by the continuing floods and is pleased to be able to offer some assistance to the flood-affected people of Victoria. As with all other assistance provided by the Company we will continue to match our employees’ individual donations through our Matched Giving Program,” Kloppers said.
This contribution is in addition to the $11 million already donated to the Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal.
The flash floods that started with record rainfalls in eastern Australia in December destroyed thousands of homes. The weather system made its way to the southeastern state of Victoria in January. According to reports, a year’s worth of rainfall poured down in just 24 hours.
