IDEX Online Research: U.S. Jewelry Sales Rise 7.7% in 2010
January 31, 11(IDEX Online News) - Jewelry sales in the U.S. market reached a record $63.4 billion in 2010, according to newly released data from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Jewelry sales in 2010 were up a dramatic 7.7 percent over the prior year. This was the largest percentage increase since 1999. In part, this large sales gain was due to easy comparisons during 2009 when sales were weak as a result of the recessionary environment.
Further, 2010 jewelry sales were 2.3 percent ahead of the prior record year of 2007, when total U.S. jewelry sales reached $62.0 billion.
While the 2010 numbers are preliminary, we expect only minor revisions over the next several months.
The table below summarizes annual jewelry sales in the U.S. from 2005 through 2010.
