March 02, 11
The mood among exhibitors and trade fair visitors was very positive. Both reported an increase in orders and a general improvement in the business environment. The jewelry, watches, design, gemstones and technology trade fair experienced an increase of more than 2 percent in attendance, with the increase most noted for visitors from Austria, Turkey, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, France, Ireland, USA, Sweden and Luxemburg. The number of exhibitors also increased by 2 percent, to 1,116 exhibitors from 36 countries. They covered a net exhibit space of 31,500 square meters in six halls at the New Munich Trade Fair. One highlight of this year’s inhorgenta was the first presentation of the inhorgenta award. Messe München GmbH honors extraordinary innovations from the jewelry and watch industry with this award, consisting of nine categories, including Contemporary Design, Lifestyle Brands and Timepieces. A Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Dr. Ruth Reisert-Hafner, who acted as a pioneer in the jewelry industry by motivating generations of jewelry designers and artists to experiment with design and techniques.
