New Indian IGI Diamond Lab Aims At End Consumer
June 15, 11(IDEX Online News) – The International Gemological Institute (IGI) inaugurated a diamond certifying facility at Ahmedabad, in the Indian state of Gujarat. This is the IGI’s second such facility in the state, the first having opened in the diamond-processing city of Surat last year.
The Ahmedabad facility is, however, not aimed at the diamond processing industry, but at the end consumer. The IGI notes that Gujarat is emerging as one of the key diamond markets in western India, with Ahmedabad identified as the next big consuming market in the state.
Tehmasp Printer, IGI India’s managing director, observed, “The awareness of quality and the need for certification is rising amongst consumers. A globally recognized certification laboratory in India provides assurance and helps build consumer confidence.” He went on to add that IGI also plans mobile laboratories that will certify jewelry for consumers all across Gujarat.
