JA’s Political Action Committee to Hit Capitol Hill
June 22, 11(IDEX Online News) – Jewelers of America (JA) leaders and board members of JAPAC, the Jewelers of America Political Action Committee, will today (Wednesday) with U.S. legislators in Washington, D.C.
JAPAC Board members will meet with their Senate and House representatives, asking them to stand up for jewelers on issues like sales tax fairness and protection of LIFO – the last-in, first-out accounting method, the organization said in a release.
The meetings are part of a daylong agenda that will include two JAPAC fundraising events organized by JA’s legislative counsel. JAPAC is the only PAC that supports the fine retail jewelry industry.
“This is a critical period for jewelers, as Congress grapples with major changes that could impact both jewelers and the consumers who buy jewelry products,” says Matthew A. Runci, President and CEO of JA. “This visit to Washington marks an important milestone for JAPAC, as the need for this type of interaction with legislators grows.”
JA is also asking the jewelry industry to participate in its campaign for the reintroduction of federal sales tax fairness.
