William and Kate Visit Yellowknife, Get Diavik Diamonds

(IDEX Online News) – Polar bears were the theme of the diamond jewelry items presented to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during their visit to Canada's Northwest Territories.

The newlyweds received a set of diamond pave cufflinks modeled after the polar bear logo of the NWT Government, and a diamond pave brooch also in the shape of the North's iconic bear.

Both gifts are made of diamonds mined at the Diavik diamond mine donated and designed by Harry Winston. Both pieces are set in platinum.

"These gifts convey the wealth of respect and affection that we hold for the Royal couple," NWT Premier Floyd K. Roland said. The diamond is the official gem stone of the Northwest Territories.

"It is an honor to provide these gifts that combine Harry Winston design and craftsmanship with the natural beauty of Northwest Territories diamonds," Robert Gannicott, Chairman and CEO of Harry Winston said.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are on an official visit to Canada, stopping in Yellowknife Wednesday.
