Diavik Produced 6.7 Mln Cts in 2011
January 17, 12(IDEX Online News) – The Diavik diamond mine in Canada produced 1.6 million carats in the fourth quarter of 2011 and 6.7 million carats of diamonds in the full year. The mine’s total proven reserve is 16.1 million carats.
Production at Diavik suffered from of lower than expected amounts of reprocessed ore, and therefore the mine did not reach the target 6.9 million target its operators were aiming for.
Harry Winston Diamond Corporation holds a 40 percent stake in the mine and Rio Tinto, which also operates it, owns the 60 of the mine.
According to a report published on Tuesday by Harry Winston Diamond, mineral reserves at Diavik are as of December 31, 2011 are:
