(IDEX Online News) – The Israeli diamond industry will participate in the Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair this February with a national pavilion hosting twelve Israeli diamond companies.
Although Israeli diamonds are not new to the Thailand market, this is the first time that an official Israeli Diamond Pavilion, organized by the Israel Diamond Institute (IDI) will be present at the show. The pavilion will be located in the diamond section of the fair.
The participating companies are AG Diamonds, Asi Abir, Shlomo Bichachi, CTB, EMA, G. Arabov, ICS, Mirage, Mor Brothers, Regent and Sorum.
Asia is Israel’s second largest diamond export market, accounting for over 33 percent of total polished diamond sales. Hong Kong, as the gateway to Asia, has been the traditional marketing hub for Israel in the region. Israeli diamantaires are actively seeking to expand to new markets in Asia, and are exploring possibilities in China, India, Singapore, Taiwan and other Asian countries.
According to Eli Avidar, managing director of IDI, promoting Israeli diamond exports to Asia is a major goal of the institute, a non-profit company that markets the Israeli diamond industry abroad. “IDI believes in the Asian markets and sees the region as the most important growth area for Israeli diamonds. We have established a foothold in Asia to support this trade. Our representative office in Hong Kong, IDI - Asia Pacific, serves both Israeli diamond companies and importers in Asia,” he said.
Nissim Palomo, IDI deputy managing director and chief marketing officer, believes that the Thai market is ripe for expanding trade with the Israeli diamond industry. “Throughout Asia, diamond jewelry is becoming more and more popular. The Thai consumer is no exception and actively seeks the glamour of diamonds and other luxury items. We are looking forward to a good experience at this show and expect it to be the first of many,” Palomo said.
