Tough Trading at Hong Kong Show

(IDEX Online News) – Traders at the Hong Kong trade are reporting strong pressure on prices, especially for 2+ carat rounds. Princess and Cushion cut goods in rising demand.

Traders told IDEX Online that price was the most important barrier at the fair and that those wholesalers that were willing to lower prices by 3-6 percent succeeded to make the deal.

Demand was not very strong and buyer attendance was not high.

The show that closed today (Sunday) follows a lukewarm Las Vegas show held earlier this month. Traders are now heading into a long summer of limited trading activity and vacations that will end in late August.

While away, hopes are that in September trade will start to pickup and that the general global economic environment will improve.
