De Beers Canada Publishes 2011 Year in Review Report
June 28, 12The report shows that De Beers Canada employed 1,023 people and injected more than $500 million directly into the Canadian economy last year.
The company’s social investment totalled $4.9 million through cash, in-kind donations and staff time with a focus on education and literacy, for the communities near its mine sites.
At Snap Lake, $161 million was spent on goods and services; $110 million (68 percent) was supplied by northern businesses and $40 million (36 percent) was provided by Aboriginal suppliers.
At Victor Mine, $101 million was spent on goods and services with $57 million (57 percent) supplied by Aboriginal businesses.
The company also said it is delivering on seven Impact Benefit Agreements and one Working Agreement with Aboriginal communities.
