The IDEX Online Polished Price Report for August 30, 2012
August 30, 12(IDEX Online News) – Round cut diamonds continue to decline in price this week, although the smaller 0.18-0.22 carat goods are yet again doing very well.
Fancy Cuts are in continued demand generally, even though some items have softened this week. Goods in 0.70-1.49 carats are in strong demand and prices in many categories are up by 3%. Top color and clarity 4 carats are rising.

Following are some of the changes in this week's IDEX Online Diamond Price Report:
Rounds
- Continued strong demand for 0.18-0.22 cts. D-G / VVS1-SI2 are up by another 2.6%-4.6%. The J / VVS2 goods lost 3.9% to $1,250 per carat (p/c).
- 0.23-0.29 cts, G-K / VVS2 goods are declining
- 0.30-0.39 cts and 0.40-0.44, a few price decreases of 2.6%-3.5%
- 0.45-0.49 cts, E and F goods softening
- 0.50-0.69 cts suffering from a few sporadic price losses
- 0.70-0.79 cts a number of price decreases
- D-H / VS2-I1 goods in the 0.90-0.99 cts range are continuing to lose ground, posing an interesting buying opportunity before they regain favor again
- After last week's sporadic declines, 1.00-1.24 cts goods are suffering from further price declines this week
- 1.25-1.49 cts, widening price declines
- 2 cts, GH and MN goods are slipping by about 3% this week
- 3 cts E / SI1 declined 3.2% to $21,500 p/c, L / VS1, -3.1% to $9,500 p/c
- No price changes this week for 4 cts rounds
- 5 cts, H / VS2 down 2.9% to $33,500 p/c
Fancy Cuts
- 0.18-0.22 cts, D / IF keep sliding, declining some 2.8% to $1,750 p/c
- 0.23-0.29, DE / VS1 lost 3% this week
- 0.30-0.39 cts a few price declines
- 0.40-0.44 cts D / IF down another 3.0% to $3,200 p/c
- 0.45-0.49 cts D / IF, G / IF and I / VVS1 are in demand. GH / VS1 are declining
- 0.50-0.69 cts D / IF, SI3 & I2 are declining
- 0.70-0.79 cts remain in demand, specifically better colors in the mid-clarity ranges. I / I1-2 keep declining
- Many price increases among the 0.80-0.89 cts size goods. I / SI3-I2 keep slipping
- 0.90-0.99 cts D / IF declined by 2.8% to $10,600 p/c, I / I1 lost 4.0% to $2,400 p/c, while many other goods in this size range increased by ~3% this week.
- 1.00-1.24 cts, F /SI1 +3.8% to $5,500 p/c, J / SI2-3 goods up 3.3% and 3.9%, respectively
- 1.50-1.99 cts HI / SI2 are in good demand
- More price increases for 2 cts goods as they gain favor
- 3 cts H / VVS1 still declining, losing 3.1% to $21,900 p/c. G / VS2 lost 3.1%, listing this week at $18,800 p/c
- 4 cts DEF / IF-VVS2 up by another 3% this week
- 5 cts are mixed this week
