Alrosa September Revenues $400M, Announce Explosion Investigation Results
September 30, 12
(IDEX Online News) – Alrosa estimates revenues from rough and polished diamonds at $400 million in September. As the third quarter reaches its end, the Russian diamond miner notes a recovery in the global diamond market.
Alrosa is aiming at $3.175 billion revenues from rough and polished diamonds in 2012, expecting a growth in demand in the fourth quarter.
The company also reported the results of the investigation into the explosion of a methane-air mixture that killed two workers at the Udachny mine in August.
The major conclusion is that there was a gross violation of safety rules when the shift was permitted to work in the airless mine face. Alrosa decided to create a triple life safety control system that includes handheld gas analyzers, implementation of a system that forces machines to stop when the allowed methane concentration is exceeded, and a system of continuous data transmission of air condition to the control station on the surface.
