Fluctuating Demand but Prices Hold Firm

The Mumbai polished diamond market saw major demand fluctuations in February. Prices remained steady for the most part but towards the end, after rough diamond prices were raised at the De Beers Sight, there was an immediate strengthening in the asking prices for polished as well.

There is a significant liquidity crunch in the market at present and this may affect price dynamics in the near term. The shortages of polished goods, due in most part to production capacity not increasing significantly over the past year, continue to plague the market.
