Round Diamond Breaks Price Record

(IDEX Online News) – A 28.86-carat D / Flawless round brilliant diamond sold for $6,940,821 at Sotheby's in Hong Kong on Monday. The $240,500 per carat price set a world auction record for a round white diamond.

The loose diamond is graded by the GIA as triple excellent with no fluorescence.

The diamond was part of the Hong Kong sale of Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite that totaled $61.4 million.

Another note worthy lot at the auction was a 3.04-carat Fancy Intense Blue, VS1 clarity diamond set in a ring that sold for $2,169,328 or $713,594.74 p/c.
