Macao’s Diamond And Diamond Jewelry Exports Soar 90% in Q1

(IDEX Online News) – Macao’s diamond and diamond jewelry exports soared 90 percent to $32 million in the first quarter of this year, according to the Special Administrative Region’s Statistics and Census Service.
Total exports in the January-March period jumped 18 percent on the year to around $290 million.
Most of the former colony’s exports are to Hong Kong and Mainland China, recording rises of 34 percent and 15 percent, respectively. Exports to the United States and the European Union dropped by 15 percent and 22 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, imports of gold jewelry in January-March rose 22 percent to $244 million, while imports of watches soared 29 percent to $170 million.
