May 16, 13
(IDEX Online News) – The Precious Stones Multi-Stakeholder Working group (MSWG) has held a follow-up teleconference meeting to discuss its next steps following a meeting in Paris on April 30.
OECD headquarters in Paris where the
April 30 meeting was held.
The MSWG agreed that its efforts to attract the broadest possible participation from the diamond and jewelry industry should continue, and that all interested stakeholders would be invited to join.
Consequently, it was agreed that further outreach to industry stakeholders was necessary.
The MSWG reaffirmed a proposal to commission a report to examine existing and potential due diligence processes including the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) and others, and recommend how such approaches could be applied to the precious stones supply chain.
Regular media bulletins will be made available as the work of the MSWG progresses.
The new group's April 30 meeting was attacked in some quarters for not including a wide enough range of stakeholders and for not being publicized sufficiently.
