South Africa Praises Work of Izhakoff For Kimberley Process

(IDEX Online News) – South Africa paid tribute to Eli Izhakoff, outgoing President of the World Diamond Council, for his significant role in establishing the Kimberley Process at the 10th anniversary KP Intersessional Meeting.
The Hon. Susan Shabangu, Minister of Mineral Resources presented the award on behalf of the South African government.
An award was also presented to Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, who was deputy president of South Africa and Minister of Minerals and Energy when the Kimberley Process was founded 13 years ago.
In addition, ambassador Robert Fowler, former Canadian ambassador to the United Nations was also honored.
All three were honored for their contribution to the creation and success of the Kimberley Process.
"The presentation of this well deserved major award was a very proud moment for Eli and the entire WDC family” said the incoming WDC President Avi Paz, who also attended the 10th anniversary Kimberley Process meeting.
