Pink Diamond Breaks Auction Record
November 14, 13 (IDEX Online News) – The auction records keep on being smashed. Last night, “The Pink Star” – a 59.60-carat oval cut pink diamond – sold for a landmark price of $83,187,381 – way beyond its pre-sale estimate of $60 million.

It was bought by diamond cutter Isaac Wolf, who renamed it “The Pink Dream” after the sale.
The previous record for a pink diamond was set three years ago at Sotheby’s Geneva, with the $46.2 million sale of the 24.78-carat “Graff Pink.”
The Pink Dream is the largest internally flawless fancy vivid pink diamond ever graded by the GIA. The Type IIa stone received the highest color and clarity grades from the GIA for pink diamonds.
The original 132.5-carat rough diamond was mined by De Beers in Africa in 1999 and took two years to cut and polish.
Overall, the Magnificent Jewels sale achieved an eye-watering $199,512,930, which is the highest jewelry sale total of all time.
“The Pink Star is a true masterpiece of nature,” said David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby’s Jewellery Division in Europe and the Middle East and chairman of Sotheby’s Switzerland. “Its immense importance was reflected tonight in the strength of the bidding and we are thrilled that the record price it achieved earned it a place in history. Today’s record sale is a further testimony to the strength and depth of the diamond and jewelry market.”
