De Beers Synthetic Detection Machines to be Installed at Mumbai Bourse

(IDEX Online News) – India is the latest country to install in its diamond exchange advanced equipment for the detection of undisclosed synthetic and natural diamonds.
The International Institute of Diamond Grading and Research (IIDGR), a division of De Beers, will provide its Automated Melee Sorting (AMS) machines to the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) for the detection of synthetic diamonds.
The machines will be operated by the Diamond Detection and Resource Centre (DDRC), part of the Gemmological Institute of India (GII), in the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB). The DDRC is sponsored by the GJEPC and BDB.
The AMS machines are able to quickly detect synthetic stones in parcels of small diamonds ranging from 0.01 to 0.20 carats.
Last week, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) presented the Israel Diamond Exchange with two advanced devices for identifying synthetic diamonds.
And at the start of this month the GIA presented the Diamond Dealers Club (DDC) of New York with its DiamondCheck machine to be used free of charge by Club members in the trading floor to check whether stones are natural or synthetic.
