First Rio Tinto Tender of 2014 Delivers Strong Results
April 10, 14 (IDEX Online News) – Rio Tinto Diamonds said its first rough tender for 2014 has delivered a strong result amidst unprecedented participation and a record number of successful bidders. The 124-lot auction featured white and fancy color rough diamonds from the Argyle, Diavik and Murowa mines.
The most valuable diamond in total dollars was a 70-carat white diamond from the Diavik mine. Rio Tinto said there was “unprecedented” bidding for the wide array of fancy colored rough diamonds from all three Rio Tinto mines. Included in the tender were yellow, champagne, cognac, pink and purple stones.
“We were delighted with the bidding, the global nature of the successful bidders and the final result,” said Patrick Coppens, general manager for the sales of all Rio Tinto diamond productions. “It speaks to the strong demand for our diverse diamond portfolio.”
Forty-four companies successful bid on lots in the auction.
Rio Tinto Diamonds’ next tender, an Invitation Sale for goods from the Diavik mine will be held in Antwerp in May.
