Ringly Develops Mobile Ring

(IDEX Online News) – Women worried about missing an important call or email because their phone is buried at the bottom of their handbag need worry no more. Wearable tech company Ringly has developed just the thing – a ring that, well, rings to allow the wearer to receive notifications from their mobile phone.

The rings, which are currently available for preorder, are made of 18-karat gold-plated brass and notification lights are shown through a small gemstone on the side of the ring. The current options are “Stargaze,” which features a black onyx, “Wine Bar,” which has a pink sapphire, “Into the Woods,” which is set with an emerald and “Daydream,” which has a rainbow moonstone.

According to the company’s website, the first 1,000 ring orders will have their gemstone upgraded to a diamond.

For consumers concerned about the provenance of their gemstone, Ringly’s website states that the rings only feature ethically mined gemstones. “Ringly only works with suppliers which state they use conflict free stones and responsible sourcing and will continue to do so in the future.”

So, how does it work? Through the Ringly app, users can set custom color and vibration patterns for different types of notifications – for example, phone calls, texts, emails, calendar alerts and notifications from platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Uber, eBay. But it doesn’t stop there; the accompany ring box acts as a charging station.

While Ringly currently only sells rings, the company’s website says that other types of jewelry will be added. There will also be additions to the materials and gemstones it offers. A men’s version is also planned.

The app is available for ioS and Android users and the rings will retail for $195 to $245.
