CAD Software Designer Gemvision Fighting Software Piracy
June 26, 14 (IDEX Online News) – CAD software designer Gemvision Inc. is taking on software piracy in an attempt to identify violators and to take legal action against them. The company said it is “alarmed” at the volume of pirated proprietary software that is available, especially in some of the major jewelry centers in the US, Europe and Asia.
It announced that with the assistance of international government agencies and private investigative resources, a number of successful raids have already been executed, which has encouraged the company to expand its efforts. It has also identified and taken action against unauthorized websites offering illegal downloads.
“We are committed to protecting our customer’s investment,” said Christopher Burger, vice president of Gemvision. “Our technological prowess combined with tenacity will be used to locate, identify and take action against companies and individuals using illegal versions of our software. We will take bold action to eliminate the illegal use of our products.”
Gemvision said it was willingness to grant amnesty to those companies who agree to purchase licensed software to replace pirated versions they are currently using. “A number of companies have come forward, including some who were successfully raided, in an effort to avoid prosecution and stiff financial penalties,” the company said in a press release.
“The use of pirated software harms the industry as a whole. It is a theft of the man-hours, research, resources and investment by developers such as Gemvision. It results in a higher cost to honorable buyers much like the cost of shoplifting filters down to honest shoppers. It also discourages economic growth and technical innovation due to the high costs associated with loss prevention.”
Gemvision has set up a site – http://matrix.gemvision.com/piracy/report-a-pirate – for businesses who would like additional information or who would like to report violations.
