RJC To Hold Session At IIJS Educational Program

July 10, 14 by Albert Robinson

(IDEX Online)
– The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) will be taking part in the educational program of the July 17-21 India International Jewellery Show (IIJS).

The program, organized by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), and sponsored by Gemological Science International (GSI), will host a series of industry experts during the four day educational series entitled Spectrum Seminar – Innovate to Grow.

The RJC’s session focuses on Gold - Conflict Minerals Legislation and what it means in India, and will take place on July 19 and features Dr Fiona Solomon, RJC’s Director, Standards Development. She will discuss supply chain due diligence in relation to legislation in the US and the European Union and how it affects gold jewelry suppliers in India.

“India’s dynamic jewelry manufacturing sector plays a vital role in the global jewelry supply chain,” said Catherine Sproule, RJC’s Chief Executive Officer – Interim. “For those Indian companies that export gold jewelry to the EU and US and want a clear understanding of the current legislation in both these regions relating to conflict minerals, it is very important to attend this session. India is a focus market in 2014 for RJC. Its goal is to enhance local engagement and member support and these sessions presented by RJC members like GSI are most appreciated.”

“GSI is a proud member of RJC and we are more than happy to sponsor this important event,” said GSI CEO Mark Gershburg. “From KP to doing good for our employees, partners and customers, we are a great industry, and nobody represents our values better than the Responsible Jewellery Council,” he added.

The RJC, which has 50 members headquartered in India, 31 of which are certified members, added that the four-day seminar series would cover a wide range of topics. These include skill development, identification of synthetic diamonds, the Chinese market, working with chain stores, facets of family businesses, opportunities in the Middle East market, the secrets of good retailing, turning trends into contemporary design, finance and marketing, E-commerce and Social Media.
