The event coincided with Lucara’s sales event currently being held in Antwerp, where the company is offering 87,000 carats of regular, mixed goods from its Karowe mine.
During his speech at the event, William Lamb, CEO and President of Lucara Diamond, told the exceptional story of the company’s rise in the past few years. Since the company’s first sale in Gaborone in 2012, Lucara has held 21 sales events, with over 800,000 carats being sold so far.
Lamb also announced the transition of all sales events to Gaborone from January 2015, as per its mining agreement. This will begin with a ‘pilot’ sales event of Karowe mixed goods from November 3-13.
Next year Lucara aims to sell 400,000-420,000 carats at seven sales. This will be boosted by exceptional stone tenders when recoveries warrant.
In addition, the company’s recent prize find – a 204-carat diamond of exceptional color and quality – was on display. The stone will be on sale at Lucara’s third Exceptional Stone Tender of 2014 in October:
Viewings are being held in Gaborone from October 6 to 8, in Antwerp from October 13 to 21, and the tender closes on October 21
The sale will feature up to seven Type 2A diamonds greater than 100 carats, including the 204-carat stone, as well as a 239-carat stone.
For all future appointments, booking and requests, clients are requested to continue to contact Bonas-Couzyn in Antwerp. Bonas Botswana will offer its facilities and infrastructure to accommodate visiting clients.
