Duchess of Windsor’s Cartier Tigers up for Auction at Christie’s
September 16, 14 (IDEX Online News) – Two pieces of tiger jewelry by Cartier are bound to be show-stoppers when they come up for auction at the Magnificent Jewels auction at Christie’s in Geneva on November 11.
The two tiger pieces comprising of an onyx and diamond clip brooch and bracelet, with emerald eyes, were both made in the 1950s and are to be sold as one lot with a combined estimate of $1.8-2.5 million.
The items, which once belonged to the Duchess of Windsor, are currently owned by singer Sarah Brightman, who received them as a gift from her then-husband, Andrew Lloyd Webber, to celebrate the success of the musical Phantom of the Opera, which he wrote and in which she starred.
Brightman said she intends to offer part of the proceedings of their sale to The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, which supports the arts, music in schools, The Architectural Heritage Fund and awards 30 performing arts scholarships annually.
