Zimbabwe Sends Workers to India Learn Diamond Cutting and Polishing
April 07, 15(IDEX Online News) – The Zimbabwe Diamond and Technology Centre (ZDTC) has sent three people to India to begin training that will enable the country to cut and polish its own diamonds.
According to newzimbabwe.com, the development comes three months after ZDTC signed a deal with Sahajanand Laser Technology Limited to supply diamond cutting machinery.
Lovemore Kurotwi, ZDTC chairman, has said that the equipment will be sent to Zimbabwe once the workers complete the training program.
Kurotwi said that the three workers sent to India for training would then train ZDTC staff upon their return.
“A team of 15 members from India will also come to Zimbabwe afterwards to assist in training our local people. This means that as a country we are going to cut more diamonds,” he said, as reported on newzimbabwe.com.
The new site also reported Kurotwi as saying that the intention is for SDTC to process, add value and sell diamonds in a model similar to the Antwerp World Diamond Centre.
