Three Arrested in Surat for Stealing 3,758 Carats of Rough Goods
May 04, 15(IDEX Online News) – Three diamond traders in India were booked by the police on Friday for allegedly cheating up to 22 diamond traders out of rough stones worth Rs. 1.51 crore ($165,150). The three are said to have purchased 3,758 carats of rough diamonds without paying for them from June to September 2014, according to a report in the Times of India (TOI).
The investigation into Chandresh Lathiya, Kanji Karamshi Jivani (Kanji) Bodki and Pravin Kukadiya was started after one of the traders, Prakash Lukhi, complained to the police.
According to the police, the three traded rough diamonds in the city’s Mini Bazar. They made payments against small purchases until early 2014, but from June onwards, after having won the trust of dealers in Surat, they stopped paying for the goods.
However, the three are on the run, although police inspector G V Padheriya told the TOI that he is sure they will soon be found and arrested.
