Joint DDC DMIA Statement re: Undisclosed Treatments
May 28, 15(Press Release) – The Diamond Dealers Club of New York(DCC) and the Diamond Manufacturers & Importers Association of America (DMIA) issued a joint statement today regarding a GIA laboratory alert concerning approximately 500 colorless to near colorless diamonds that potentially were subjected to an undisclosed, temporary treatment, which masks the inherent color of the diamond and can lead to a higher grade.
“The Diamond Dealers Club of New York and the Diamond Manufacturers & Importers Association of America stand united in strong condemnation of the use of undisclosed treatments. The DDC and the DMIA support the highest ethical standards. Disciplinary action will be taken if any member fails to follow DDC and DMIA rules and regulations regarding proper disclosure. The DDC and the DMIA remind their members that all treatments must be clearly written and disclosed on all memos and invoices. We take comfort knowing that the GIA is able to detect these new treatments and we will assist them anyway we can.”
