Workers Owed Back Pay Following Ellendale Closure
July 12, 15(IDEX Online News) – Some 100 former workers of the Ellendale Diamond Mine in Western Australia have not been paid following the voluntary closure of the mine. According to media reports, AU$13.5 million ($10 million) is outstanding to creditors remained outstanding to creditors with a further AU$17.5 million ($13 million) owed to the miner's subsidiary firms, Royell and Kimroy.
Parent company Kimberley Diamonds Limited is owed AU$1.9 million ($1.4 million), according to reports on www.abc.net.au.
Administrators have already started the process of selling the mine and have said that the former employees were the priority creditors and would be paid first. According to ABC, the administrators intend to use the proceeds of the sale of unprocessed and processed diamonds from the mine to pay some off its debts.
