Dominion Diamond Corporation Sales Down in Q2 2016
August 23, 15(IDEX Online News) – Dominion Diamond Corporation recorded second fiscal quarter 2016 sales of $209.7 million (Ekati $137.7 million and Diavik $72 million), down from $277.3 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2015.
During the quarter, Dominion recovered 0.9 million carats from 1 million tons of processed ore from the Ekati Diamond Mine.
Dominion said it implemented a new diamond liberation initiative at the mine in July, which includes a reduction in the level of throughput to the plant from 12,000 to 10,500 tons per day (or approximately 4.3 to 3.8 million tons per year). Initial results showed a significant increase in grade recovered, principally of diamonds up to 1.5 carats in size, with only a marginal decrease in dollar per carat.
