ALROSA Developing Lab-Grown Diamond Screening Technology
October 15, 15(IDEX Online News) – ALROSA president Andrey Zharkov announced at the recent World Diamond Council annual general meeting held in Moscow, that the Russian miner is conducting research into effective and fast detectors of lab-grown diamonds.
Zharkov sounded a note of alarm that lab-grown diamonds have increasingly found their way into parcels of natural diamonds when they are sent for grading. He emphasized that there was a need to keep lab-grown and natural diamonds separate, and that ALROSA supported legislative initiatives to regulate the matter.
A Russian governmental decree will come into effect in November, which demands that the vendor of a jewelry item stipulates the method of processing, including any changes in quality or color characteristics. Crucially, the label is also supposed to reveal whether the stone is precious (natural) or lab-grown.
