GSI CEO Says Improved Understanding of Lab-Grown Diamonds Will Dispel Panic
December 06, 15(IDEX Online News) – Gemological Science International (GSI) CEO Mark Gershburg said that a better understanding of lab-grown diamonds is needed to calm confusion about the product.
Gerhsburg’s comments came ahead of GSI’s participation at the Diamond Detection Expo and Symposium, which is being jointly hosted by the Gem and Jewelry Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB). At that event, the company’s chief gemologist, Seema Ashish Athavale, will present a seminar featuring a comparative study of natural and lab-grown diamonds.
Gershburg, Athavale and other senior GSI staff will provide information for diamond industry members and non-technical diamond industry stakeholders about the issues and the latest developments regarding lab-grown diamonds. The company hopes that by being available to discuss the topic, it will remove some of the mystique that surrounds it.
“A better understanding of the facts and issues surrounding synthetic diamonds will help dispel some of the needless panic and confusion. It will help the diamond industry cope more effectively with the issue of undisclosed mixing of synthetic diamonds with parcels of natural goods,” said Gershburg.
The Diamond Detection Expo and Symposium takes place from December 15-16 in Mumbai.
