NY Jeweler Loses up to $10 Million in Diamonds from Unlocked Safe

December 14, 15 by Danielle Max

(IDEX Online News) – A New York jeweler has had up to $10 million worth of diamonds stolen after leaving his safe unlocked. According to Reuters, Jonathan Birnbaum, a Manhattan-based jeweler, kept the safe unlocked to allow easy access to the other items stored within.

While the robbery was reported on December 10, the actual theft could have taken place anytime between November 24 when he first put them in the safe, and December 8, when he first noticed they were missing.

According to Reuters, five of the company’s with access to the safe, as well as contractors who were working in the office at the time, were being interviewed about the incident.
