Lucapa Diamond Sales Raise $5.6 Million in Q4 2015
January 18, 16(IDEX Online News) – Australian-owned Lucapa Diamond Company Limited has announced that it completed three diamond sales in the December quarter, raising AUD$8.1 million ($5.6 million).
The total was the highest quarterly sales result achieved to date. The average selling price of AUD$2,141 ($1,476) was also the highest quarterly average achieved.
The company recovered a total of 28 specials (diamonds weighing more than 10.8 carats), with the two largest stones weighing 74.5 and 66.3 carats respectively.
Average stone size also increased from 1.2 carats in the September quarter to 1.35 carats in December.
Lucapa also announced that alluvial mining in December was hampered by heavy rains, which contributed to lower average grades and reduced diamond recoveries in December.
Lucapa operates the Lulo Diamond Project in Angola’s Lunda Norte, located within 150 kilometers of Catoca, the world’s fourth largest kimberlite diamond mine.
