WJH Awards Honorary Membership to DMCC Executive Chairman
February 08, 16(IDEX Online News) – Ahmed Bin Sulayem, executive chairman of the Dubai Multi Commodities Center has been awarded honorary membership of the World Jewelry Hub (WJH).
Bin Sulayem, who is also the current chairman of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS), was presented with the honor by WJH chairman Eli Izhakoff at a ceremony in Panama City.
During his visit, Bin Sualyem met with leaders of the Panama Diamond Exchange (PDE), when increased cooperation between the DMCC and PDE was discussed.
Bin Sualyem also met with Panamanian government officials, including Commerce Minister Augosto Arosemena, including how the KP could be strengthened in the Latin American market.
Izhakoff said that the work already undertaken in Dubai was inspiration for the PDE. “Over the past 14 years, he and his team pioneered the development of a trading center in Dubai, handling multiple precious metals and gemstones, diamonds and jewelry. Their work has served both as a model and benchmark for what we are doing in Panama.”
Bin Sulayem said that the necessary ingredients were present for the PDE to become increasingly influential. “I am very impressed with the caliber of the companies that are already established at the World Jewelry Hub,” he said. “It has all the elements necessary to become an important industry player and the world's entry point to Latin America.”
