DEF Announces Honorees for ‘Diamonds Do Good’ Awards
March 22, 16(IDEX Online News) – The Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF) has announced the recipients of its upcoming ‘Diamonds Do Good’ Awards – Dorothée Gizenga of the Diamond Development Initiative will pick up the award for Sustainable Practices and Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook for Community Development.
The ‘Diamonds Do Good’ Sustainable Practices Award recognizes ethical and sustainable practices in the diamond industry. Gizenga, who was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) (Zaire) and is now a Canadian citizen, committed the Diamond Development Initiative to transform artisanal mining into a source of sustainable development.
The Community Development Award recognizes community development and personal empowerment. Chow Tai Fook supports community development as part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility, particularly in China. This includes support for UNICEF, and a focus on healthcare for children and mothers in rural China.
Gizenga and Chow Tai Fook join Nathan R. Light in receiving Diamonds Do Good Awards at the gala. Light will receive D.E.F’s Diamonds Do Good Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Diamonds Do Good Awards will take place in Las Vegas on June 2.
