ALROSA 2015 Output Climbs to 38.3 Million Carats
April 18, 16(IDEX Online News) – The world’s largest diamond miner by volume, ALROSA, has confirmed that its 2015 rough diamond production increased 6 percent, to 38.3 million carats.
The company said that the production increase was due to the successful development of Mir and Udachny underground mines and the commissioning of Karpinskaya-1 and Botuobinskaya pipes and other high-potential deposits. ALROSA estimated that global diamond mining grew and average of 3 percent or ~129 million carats.
The company’s rough diamond sales increased 3.8 percent, despite weaker global rough diamond market conditions. Sales reached RUB224.5 billion ($3.28 billion) – an 8-percent increase. The ALROSA Group estimates its diamond reserves to be 43.6 million carats.
Following the results, ALROSA’s market capitalization exceeded RUB 412 billion ($6.02 billion).
