May 09, 16(IDEX Online News) – As part of its efforts to expand overseas, the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) has announced its collaboration with Shanghai BETTER Institute of Gemology to offer professional gem and jewelry appraisal training.
The ASA aims to provide the highest level of ethical and educational training, and has teamed up with the Shanghai BETTER Institute of Gemology to offer appraisal training for gems and jewelry professionals in Shanghai, China. As the consumer market grows in China’s financial capital, the demand for educated and trained appraisal professionals is expected to increase.
The Advanced Gemological Appraisal Course will be taught over 10 days from September 19-30, and includes 80 hours of training in valuation theory, appraisal development and report writing, and gems and jewelry descriptive guidelines. Completion of this class fulfils the international requirement for principles of valuation training for ASA accreditation in gems and jewelry.
"With the Chinese gem and jewelry market expanding so quickly, we definitely have to provide more appraisal professionals to the trade,” said Shanghai BETTER Institute of Gemology president Leah Wan.
“The US appraisal practice has a profound influence on the Chinese appraisal industry, and ASA has a long history and the most prestigious reputation in the appraisal field. We are so honored to work with ASA and bring the most professional appraisal Courses to China."
More than 300 students graduate from the Shanghai BETTER Institute of Gemology, one of the earliest professional skills training schools for jewelry and gems in China, each year.
The ASA is the oldest and only major organization representing all appraisal specialists, with an emphasis on the highest ethical and professional standards.
