WFDB Committees Meet Ahead of World Diamond Congress
May 17, 16(IDEX Online News) – The World Federation of Diamond Bourses has held a series of committee meetings in Dubai, ahead of the opening of the 37th World Diamond Congress today (Tuesday).
WFDB president Ernie Blom said that the meetings were an opportunity to discuss issues that have arisen in between its regular gatherings, as well as ongoing topics. He added that it was important for delegates to understand the factors impacting trade in the diamond pipeline in different parts of the world.
“The trade and business committee met for the first time and discussed the issues of profitability, synthetics, banking and finance,” said Blom. “And the promotion committee heard about the WFDB’s new communications strategy and its work in promoting our organization via social media as well as receiving a report on the World Diamond Mark.”
The opening session of the Congress will be hosted by the Dubai Diamond Exchange at the Almas Tower. Speakers include Blom, IDMA secretary-general Ronnie Vanderlinden, Dubai Diamond Exchange chairman Peter Meeus, and Dubai Multi Commodities Centre executive chairman and Kimberley Process chair, Ahmed Bin Sulayem. World Jewelry Confederation (CIBJO) president Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri, will also be attending the Congress and its meetings.
