May Polished Diamond Prices Show Stability With Slight Uptick
June 01, 16(IDEX Online News) – The polished diamond price index for May was essentially flat, except for a three-day dip in the third week of the month. The Index began the month at 125.6 and ended at 125.5.
The usual pattern before trade shows, and especially the largest trade show – Las Vegas – is that it gives impetus to polished diamond prices. This year, however, we saw prices hold stable with a slight upward movement, which could point to a re-think of how trade shows operate as a barometer of the general market.
On a year-over-year basis, May’s average price fell 2.6 percent, in the mid-range for price fluctuation in 2016.
On a month-to-month basis, May’s global polished diamond prices saw a slight growth, registering a 1-percent increase over April.
Diamond Price Stability Continues
Polished diamond prices have shown stability and only minimal fluctuations since November, a trend which continued into May, with the graphs showing statistically insignificant changes.
