Rio Tinto Unveils Argyle Red Diamond Coin
July 12, 16(IDEX Online News) – Rio Tinto has unveiled the world’s first coin to feature a rare red diamond from its Argyle Diamond mine.
The coin, known as “The Kimberley Treasure,” unveiled by Western Australia Premier Colin Barnett MLA, and for sale at AUD$1 million ($762,000), has been issued as legal tender. It was created from 1 kilogram of 99.99 percent fine gold, and features a radiant cut 0.54-carat red diamond unearthed from the company’s Argyle Diamond Mine in the east Kimberley region of Western Australia.
