Dominion Diamond Corp: Output From Diavik Jumped 22% in Q3
October 20, 16(IDEX Online) – Dominion Diamond Corp reported that production from the Diavik Diamond Mine for the third calendar quarter of 2016 were 22% higher than in the same quarter of the prior year reflecting higher processing volumes.
The firm reported the recovery of 1.54 million carats in the third quarter from 1.27 million carats in the year-earlier quarter.
"Recovered grades were also higher than the same quarter of the prior year, but below plan in the quarter as a result of increased underground dilution as a result of granite sloughing from the walls of the open pit. The Diavik Diamond Mine team is in the process of assessing this dilution increase and the possible impact on the remaining calendar year production," the miner said in a statement.
Processing volumes in the third calendar quarter of 2016 were 22% higher than in the same quarter of the prior year primarily due to higher ore availability, particularly from A-418 which experienced poor ground conditions in the third quarter of calendar 2015.
For the first three-quarters of this year, production totaled 5.0 million carats compared with 4.91million carats last year.
