HKJMA Young Manufacturers to Attend International Diamond Week

January 25, 17 by Albert Robinson

(IDEX Online) – The Hong Kong Jewellery Manufacturers’ Association (HKJMA) is sending a special delegation of young manufacturers to the sixth International Diamond Week in Israel (IDWI) to be held from February 13-16.

The delegation, which will be led by HKJMA Chairman Adam Lau, will include Deputy Chairman Peter Lam, Executive Joe Lee and head of the Youth Committee Kevin Ng, as well as a number of younger manufacturers.

During the week, the delegation will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with representatives of the younger generation of the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) to ensure future trade ties and cooperation between the two bodies. The delegation will also hold a meeting with leading members of IDE to discuss current issues of mutual interest, the IDE said in a statement.

IDE President Yoram Dvash said, “Hong Kong’s jewelry manufacturing industry is highly valued throughout the world. We enjoy outstanding relations with HKJMA and we are thrilled that they are bringing a delegation to our international event. With the signing of the MOU we will promote the continuity of the excellent ties between our organizations.”

HKJMA Chairman Dr. Adam Lau said, “Hong Kong jewelry is a traditional industry renowned for its craftsmanship, high quality and design. The young generation joining this industry can bring new ideas for the industry. As e- business, product definition and tailor-made jewelry are becoming more and more popular, the young generation can bring creativity to further development in these areas. They are more familiar with online business and they can give more inspiration in e-marketing as well. I’m looking forward to the signing of the MOU between the younger generations of both of our industries. I hope it will foster stronger bonds between the two parties.”

The sixth IDWI will be significantly larger than previous event, the IDE said, with buyers registered from over 20 countries, including the United States, U.K., Germany, Hong Kong, China and India. There will be a huge selection of polished and rough goods offered by hundreds of Israeli and international companies exhibiting on the IDE trading floor. Moreover, several international tenders of rough and polished diamonds have been scheduled to coincide with the event. The event will also offer a rich social program, free sightseeing tours to Jerusalem and the Dead Sea and three free hotel nights.
