Heart-Shaped Diamond Sold By Christie’s For $15M Sets Auction Record
May 17, 17(IDEX Online) – A heart-shaped diamond, bought for just under $15 million at Christie’s in Geneva, set a new record for a heart-shaped diamond sold at auction.
The sale at the auctioneer's May 15-17 Luxury Sales event surpassed the previous record of $10.9 million set at Christie’s in May 2011, said François Curiel, Christie’s Chairman Europe and Asia.
The flawless, D color, 92.15-carat, heart-shaped diamond, set by Boehmer et Bassenge in a sautoir, sold for $14,989,012, or $163,016 per carat after three minutes of bidding in the room and telephone, Christie’s said.
Among other highlights was a cushion-shaped fancy intense blue, VS1 diamond of 7.97 carats which was bought for $12.7 million, or $1,600,000 per carat.
Meanwhile, a pear-shaped D color, potentially IF diamond pendent necklace by Chopard weighing 56.03 carats sold for $6.35 million, or $113,000 per carat.
