IIDGR Unveils Synthetic Screening Device For Testing Multiple Stones In Set Jewelry
June 06, 17(IDEX Online) – The International Institute of Diamond Grading & Research (IIDGR), a De Beers Group company, today unveiled SYNTHdetect – the first synthetic screening device in the industry to test multiple stones in set jewelry at once without the need for a probe. It also has the industry’s lowest referral rate at around 0.05 per cent.
The device, unveiled at the JCK show in Las Vegas this week, uses IIDGR’s patented luminescence technology to rapidly and simultaneously screen stones set in a wide range of jewelry pieces, including rings, earrings, bangles, broaches and necklaces.
The very low referral rate dramatically reduces the need for additional and potentially costly testing compared with many other synthetic screening products which can have referral rates approaching 10 per cent.
SYNTHdetect has been designed specifically for back office use to support jewelry manufacturers and retailers to better and more easily ensure the authenticity of the diamonds they purchase.
The device is the latest product to be unveiled in IIDGR’s range of second generation detection instruments, following the announcement of PhosView last year and AMS2 earlier this year.
Jonathan Kendall, President, IIDGR, said: “SYNTHdetect screens multiple stones in set jewelry quickly, easily and reliably, and with the industry’s lowest referral rate. It will provide jewelry manufacturers and retailers with greater levels of assurance that every diamond they purchase and sell as a natural diamond is exactly that.
“SYNTHdetect represents the continuation of our second generation range of synthetic detection devices, which have been developed through ongoing research and development by IIDGR’s world-leading experts in this technology.
“It is yet another demonstration of IIDGR’s commitment to providing products and services that support the diamond trade in all product integrity needs, helping to create a more confident industry for trade participants and consumers alike.”
