Sarine Reports 'Major Progress' in Clarity and Color Grading Machine Testing
July 31, 17(IDEX Online) – Sarine Technologies Ltd says it has made "major progress" with the large-scale testing of its revolutionary automated, consistent and reliable clarity and color grading technologies.
"The large scale testing of our new technologies for the automated, objective and consistent grading of a polished diamond's clarity and color grades, which commenced late last year has progressed well," the technology firm announced in a statement. "The technologies have already achieved the ability to correctly and consistently match the grading opinion of a reference group of multiple human gemologists, and the actual polished stone's gemological lab report when available, within a grade’s accuracy, with 97 percent correlation for clarity and 99 percent correlation for color.
"These error rates, of 3 percent and 1 percent respectively, are in comparison to the current error rate of manual grading, which we have found to be in excess of 7 percent for clarity and 3.5 percent for non-fluorescent color (color grading of fluorescent diamonds is substantially worse), based on statistical analyses of the manual grading reference group (Note: typically, 10 percent of clarity grade results are contested). We expect that these numbers will be further refined over time, as our self-teaching algorithms are perfected, so that the error rates for both clarity and color will ultimately be less than 1 percent.
"Thus, we will be able to introduce an entirely new level of accuracy, consistency and reliability to the clarity and color grading paradigm, as we did in 1992 with cut grading based on the DiaMension, its HD refinement in 2009 and the still unmatched Axiom in 2014. We remain on track for commercialization in Q3 2017, with the formal launch scheduled for mid-September."
David Block, Chief Executive Officer of Sarine said, "For the past 25 years, we have offered the wholesale and retail markets for polished diamonds value-added services, commencing with the ground-breaking introduction of automated cut grading in 1992 and its subsequent industry-leading refinements. This was followed later with the launching of truly accurate light performance grading in 2013, Sarine Loupe imaging in 2014 and the Sarine Profile in 2015. Introducing technology for the comprehensive 4Cs grading at an unmatched level of accuracy, consistency and reliability, will take the consumer's confidence to an all-new level. Together with our Profile, which is completely changing the buying experience in virtually all the APAC markets and starting to do so in North America, as well, this will enable retailers to enhance their brand at an entirely new level of sophistication. The 21st century calls for 21st century technology, and we are at the forefront of providing the same to the retail diamond market.”
