Alrosa sells $10.5 million of rough and $4.1 million of polished at auction during recent Hong Kong show
March 21, 19Alrosa published the results of its special size rough diamond auction held during the recent Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show. The company sold 101 stones at a total weight of 1,829 carats that generated a revenue of $10.5 million.
"The auction was held as part of one of the largest jewelry exhibitions. From year to year, global diamond market participants from around the world visit it. I would like to note that this time there was a rather large inflow of visitors, as well as the interest from customers. Considering the positive results of the auction, we can note that the demand for diamonds of the size category exceeding 10.8 carats remains stable," Evgeny Agureev, Member of the Management Board, Director of the United Selling Organization at ALROSA, was quoted in a company statement.
At its polished diamond auction, Alrosa sold 56 stones at a total weight of approx. 300 carats, generating $4.1 million The majority of these stones (238 ct.) were fancy colored diamonds that included two fancy yellow, cushion-cut diamonds, weighing 31 and 30 carat that sold for $815,000 total.
"We held the first polished diamond auction this year in Hong Kong, and once again became convinced that there is a strong interest in fancy colored diamonds, which are especially highly valued in this market today, among the participants of [the] jewelry industry. We formed the assortment of polished diamonds based on the existing demand, and [are] very pleased with the sales results," Pavel Vinikhin, Director of the DIAMONDS ALROSA cutting division, was quoted saying.
