IDEX is First to Highlight Diamonds with GIA Origin Reports
November 17, 20(IDEX Online) - IDEX Online is to become the first diamond trading platform in the world to feature diamonds with GIA's Diamond Origin Reports.
The pioneering development will allow buyers to filter their search to display only diamonds that come with a GIA Diamond Origin Report (DOR).
The DOR scientifically matches a polished diamond to its original rough, telling the story of the gem's origin. That allows consumers to better judge that the diamond has been sustainably and ethically sourced.
Wholesalers and retailers on IDEX Online will be able to readily forward the DOR to customers using the "Email this Diamond" function. Buyers will then be able to read the report in full.
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) developed the scientific matching process to link the polished gem to its source rough. GIA also distinguishes mined diamonds from lab-growns, and indicates whether a stone has undergone any treatments.
DORs feature full-color digital images of the diamond in its rough and polished state, together with an image-rich story of its country of origin. They also provide a full 4C grading assessment with plotted diagram.
GIA uses physical measurements, spectrographic data, and still/video imaging to characterize a rough diamond, then analyzes the resulting polished stone so it can confirm it's the same gem.
DORs offer the consumer unrivalled peace-of-mind about a stone's traceability and help retailers build trust and credibility.
Ehud D Cohen, chairman of IDEX Online, said: "We are extremely proud to be the first diamond trading platform to partner with GIA and we see this as a very significant step.
"Consumers increasingly seek reassurance that the diamond they buy has been ethically and sustainably sourced.
"We are more than happy to help provide them with that information by showing our buyers which diamonds have a DOR.
