IDEX Price Report for 1 February: A Mixed Bag of Price Movements

(IDEX Online) - There was a mixed bag of price changes in January, with more activity among rounds than fancies. Across all cuts and sizes shown below price increases and decreases were more or less even, and in many size categories there were virtually no changes.
Rounds
One-carats and larger (1.00-1.99-cts) saw virtually no movement during January. There was a blitz of price increases among 3.00-3.99-ct goods and rises also among 2.00-2.99-cts. There was only a smattering of price changes among many stone sizes. Overall, there were more price increases than decreases, typically around the three per cent mark, with the notable exception of 0.45-0.49-cts.
Fancies
Fancies saw less movement overall than rounds, with prices all but static among most stones under 0.50-cts. Larger stones, from 4.00-5.99-cts, were busier, with a near-even balance of increases and decreases. Price drops predominated in 0.70-0.89-cts and 1.00-1.24-cts.
